We are at the brink of the slippery slope to a potential ‘Fourth Reich’. The stench of it is in the air.  Is it not enough that Trump is guilty of nepotism, violation of the Emoluments clause of the Constitution, cozying up to the nation’s adversaries while trashing agreements and relations with our long-time allies? And the treasonous act of holding congressionally approved arms to Ukraine hostage to coerce that country’s new president into lying about opponent Joe Biden? And acting in and directing others to act in contempt of congress? All of these were documented in his first impeachment trial and excused by every ‘Republican senator’ except Mitt Romney. 

There is no precedent in law for Trump’s defense claim of a non-existent statute of limitations after impeachment during his term in office for crimes committed during his time in office, and if let stand, it would create an irrational immunity to future similar attempts to overturn an election. Even though President Biden wants to get on with his agenda, the House managers should petition the Supreme Court immediately to rule on the validity of the claimed basis of the vote to acquit after reviewing the graphic and overwhelming evidence. That would force craven senators to vote on the merits of the case instead of using a contrived fig leaf to hide their missing manhood. 

It is long past time to pass an amendment to the constitution that imposes term limits on members of congress. I would propose a maximum of three six-year terms for Senators, and four four-year terms for House Representatives. I believe that current two-year terms cause House members to spend all their time campaigning and raising money for reelection instead of doing the work they get paid for, leaving lobbyists to write legislation.

Congress should immediately vote to permanently bar Trump from public office, and refuse funding in perpetuity of all privileges for him granted to past presidents, including but not limited to Secret Service protection, and any government salary for him or family members. His tax returns should immediately be released to congress and liens placed on his properties pending resolution of tax fraud issues. That is what he has earned!
